A pet friendly home with shared ownership

Crossways Quarter, Dartford

Samantha, a proud pet owner, found her dream home through our shared ownership scheme. Unlike many other housing associations, we welcome pets in our apartments, making it the perfect choice for Samantha and her furry friends. Her journey highlights our commitment to creating pet-friendly communities without compromise.

What led you to buy through shared ownership?

It's affordable and a great way to get on the housing ladder.

Moat's pet policy was one of the main reasons I bought with Moat. I looked at many flats and hardly any allowed pets. I couldn't bear the thought of losing my dogs.  The fact that Moat allow pets made me realise I was definitely going to buy with you as I wanted my pets with me. I think more housing associations should follow in your footsteps.

How did you find the buying process with Moat?

I found the buying process smooth as I had a very good housing officer who responded to my queries quickly and assisted me all the way through . There was nothing that could have been done better it was perfect from Moats perspective and my sales executive, Ben.

Ben was extremely helpful. He helped me when ever I had a question and he replied to emails promptly and if it wasn't for Ben really helping me I wouldn't have this dream flat that I love.

I can't rate Moat enough. They also have a pet policy which is rare to find in apartments!

When you saw your new home for the first time, how did it make you feel?

I was in disbelief. It felt surreal I loved it and so did my dad and daughter who accompanied me on the first viewing.

What is your favourite thing about your new home and why?

I love the big bedroom as it's perfect to share with my young daughter as it's huge. I also love the open plan kitchen front room area.

Looking back, what advice would you give to someone considering shared ownership as a housing option?

Do it, it's worth it and a great way to get into owning your own property. It helps when you have a sales executive who goes above and beyond to make that dream come true.

Please get in touch if you’re thinking of buying a home with us and have a pet. We can then check the lease agreement and confirm if it’s OK. We try to approve all pet requests wherever we can. Most of our lease agreements allow you to keep common domesticated pets in your home. You may keep small animals such as fish, hamsters and non-poisonous insects in a small cage or tank without seeking our permission. However, for some block of flats, where we’re not the owner of the building, there may be clauses within the lease agreement which say that pets, or certain types of pets, can’t live in the building or homes.
