Shared ownership for a mum and her sons

How did you first hear about shared ownership, and what attracted you to it?

I have a friend who owns a flat on shared ownership, and she said it was a great way of investing my money, as well as securing a home for my sons. 

What made shared ownership the right choice for you, and how did it compare to other options you considered?

I knew that I could never afford to rent a property of my own privately, and I would not be able to secure a mortgage on my own, so this really was my best option. 

Can you walk us through your experience of buying with Moat? What went smoothly, and what challenges (if any) did you face?

It was fantastic, I did not have any issues. Keeley kept me updated and reassured me when I thought things were not moving forward, and it was a positive experience.

What was it like stepping into your new home for the first time? Can you describe the moment?

Stepping into my own home with Moat was so overwhelming, I cried such happy tears. It was such a beautiful house, and I could not believe I was standing at my front door! 

What do you love most about your new home, and how has it changed your day-to-day life?

Having a home of my own gives me security for myself and my two sons, a place of serenity and love. The last six years have been very stressful for my family, so our beautiful new home will also be a place of healing and making memories. 

What advice would you give to someone considering shared ownership, based on your own experience?

I had a few people trying to be negative about shared ownership, but I think it’s an incredible experience in helping people like me get on the property ladder.

If it weren’t for Moat Housing, I would not have ever been given this opportunity to own my own home. Even if it’s just a small percentage, it gives me peace of mind.
