Rebuilding a family home with shared ownership

I recently went through a tough divorce and my ex husband bought me out of the family home. This resulted in my children and I having no home, unless I was prepared to waste all the equity I had gained from the family home on rent. I had a decent amount of deposit money, but not a high enough mortgage capacity to buy the size house we needed. I felt absolutely desperate for a resolution, so while I tried to find an alternative to renting, we moved in with family.

I eventually found the shared ownership option with Moat, after trying other housing associations but they were selling a far higher percentage. I met all the requirements for Moat and it ticked all my boxes too. I could finally invest my money and own an affordable percentage of a house.

It was a tough process in as much as, you have to register your interest quickly when the houses get released online, but I was lucky enough to be successful on a local development and the process was then smooth sailing! 

From reservation to move in day it took just six weeks! Moat were fantastic from the very start. They kept in constant contact with me and put my mind at ease as I was a nervous wreck by this point, after all I had gone through over the past few months. I am so thankful to them for our new home, it has had a huge positive impact on me and my children and the house is just beautiful. The customer care team are still regularly phoning me to check all is ok in my home and get any issues resolved quickly.

My plan now is to start saving and staircase buy a higher percentage of our home.

After feeling at breaking point, we finally now have our forever home and the most wonderful neighbours as an added bonus.
